Around 1598, Hernando Alvarado Tezozómoc wrote his Mexican Chronicle in Spanish, and around 1609 he wrote his Mexicáyotl Chronicle in Nahuatl. The original manuscript of the Mexican Chronicle is not the autograph of Alvarado Tezozómoc, but the work of a skilled amanuensis who worked under his direction; For its part, the Crónica mexicáyotl has reached us through the handwritten copy of Domingo Chimalpáhin. The original of the Mexican Chronicle belonged successively to Carlos de Sigüenza y Góngora, to the College of San Pedro and San Pablo, and Lorenzo Boturini Benaduci. At the request of Boturini himself, who had had his collection confiscated, Mariano Fernández de Echeverría y Veytia had a copy of the Chronicle made in Mexico, which was completed in October 1755, two months after Boturini's death, which occurred in Madrid.
