That pain is exacerbated by the author, Sergio Galindo, who corners his characters against the edge of a bottomless pit. The first edition of this work appeared in 1958; the second was published in 1984, the year in which Galindo received the Mariano Azuela Fine Arts Prize for Literature. This edition includes a prologue by Rafael Antúnez.
