“Las esquinas oscuras” is a novel about a province and family that, though once rich and powerful, has declined after three or four generations, although it still retains enough “to be worthy of respect.” Its decline, however, is far more than economic. Rather, it has occurred in large part through the scarcity of its offspring, dwindling to just one man, Laureano, who is a 45 year old bachelor with no marriage prospects. Author Sergio Galindo,widely cited as one of the greatest Mexican narrators, left this work unfinished at the time of his passing. He was also the author of the masterpieces “El Bordo” and “Polvos de arroz.”.
