The Sierra del Nayar became, upon the arrival of the Spanish, a marginal space far from the large population centers of the viceroyalty. The large volumes of documentation that other regions did not exist and this has led to the low presence of this area in studies on New Spain. The conquest of the Coras in 1722 is one of the best-known episodes in the history of Nayar. However, until now it had been told based on two sources: the texts of the Jesuit José Ortega and those of the Spanish captain Juan Flores de San Pedro. For this reason, in the stories about the conquest of the Nayar, indigenous action has occupied a marginal place. This work aims to take the indigenous people from the margins to turn them into the protagonists of the narrative, from a vast documentation from various archives. The first version of this text was awarded the Prize of the Mexican Academy of Sciences for the best doctoral thesis in Humanities of the year 2018.
