Lima: La Siniestra Ensayos, 2021. First Edition. Paperback. 250p., bibl., indices, wrps. New. Item #81107

The Catholic Church is one of the institutions that has gone through the most important changes in the 20th century. In several Latin American countries the process of ecclesial change has been intense and has had important social and, above all, political consequences.

The purpose of "Catholics, radicals and militants. Fifty years of conflicts in the Peruvian Church" is to examine the history of this process, in the Peruvian case, paying special attention to the effects of radicalization that took place in a certain sector of the Peruvian Church. It pays attention to the emergence of a rebellious sector in the Catholic Church that assumed a political style that fed the radical left in the 1960s and 1970s. It also examines the main signs, and the various faces, exhibited by the Catholic Church between 1986 and 2020, especially in the political and social sphere, a field in which their internal differences were revealed. Finally, it outlines an interpretative balance of half a century of changes and confrontations in the Church.
