In contemporary Peru, the street is a political arena in conflict with institutional and media arenas; often, protestors are able to widen the contours of the public sphere, constituting an effective counterweight to the State. "La democracia y la calle" analyzes the structural and conjectural circumstances that explain the expansion and entrenchment of protests as a form of popular sovereignty, and reflects on the type of power that's built through this process and its significant limitations to deepen, renew, or re-found democratic politics.
