"Redescubriendo el Archivo Etnográfico Audiovisual" offers multiple approaches from different disciplines to the film production of the Audiovisual Ethnographic Archive (AEA) of the National Indigenous Institute (INI). Said ethnographic film corpus was produced between 1978 and 1995 in order to document for posterity different sociocultural aspects of the indigenous peoples of Mexico. The AEA films reflect a particular way of looking at and representing cultural diversity, displaying a framework of meanings, imaginaries and stereotypes around the original peoples of our country, in a time of profound transformations in Mexico and the world. The AEA comprises about fifty films of different lengths and a lot of raw film material, currently protected in the Alfonso Muñoz Film and Video Collection of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI). The fourteen texts that make up this publication seek to motivate readers to get to know or rediscover this audiovisual heritage, they offer us clues and keys to appreciate its enormous wealth, which for many years has gone unnoticed and still remains in a latent state.
