Of the 10 texts that Rousseau wrote in the book entitled Reveries of a Solitary Walker, four were selected for this work: the first, the second, the fourth and the fifth. Written in reflective and poetic prose, these texts move between essay, intimate narration and autobiography. According to the author, their purpose is "to make a faithful record of their solitary walks and the daydreams that fill them" but the most remarkable thing about them is that they expose universal themes of philosophy such as the relationship between truth and justice, the conquest of a free solitude, the phantasmagorical beauty of certain illusions and ideas, or the constant Socratic challenge of knowing oneself.
