The volume brings together the complete collaborative work that Borges and Bioy Casares published under their own names and under the aliases H. Bustos Domecq and B. Suárez Lynch.

Borges and Bioy Casares shared fifty years of literary friendship, a good part of which they spent locked up, writing together. They were the same other: a third writer, unassimilable to one as well as the other, profoundly eccentric. Hence, Bustos Domecq and Suárez Lynch -the aliases with which they formalize the existence of the Third Writer- are something more than pseudonyms. They are legal writers, just as authors as the authors who invented them. In that other called Bustos Domecq or Suárez Lynch they discovered the premature possibility, and for that reason doubly fascinating, of that experience of stammering, instability and imbalance that Adorno called "late style", and that artists, according to him, only achieved once they they were absolute masters of their artistic means. Late style is malaise made style, a sort of implosion that shakes the work and turns it against itself, even at the price of liquidating it. That sick masterpiece, unrecognizable to itself, Adorno said, could only appear at the end of something. With the work of the Third Writer, Borges and Bioy demonstrated that it could also appear in the middle, in a transit zone, that political passion could be its active moto.
