"Quevedo en la Redoma" a collection of unorthodox works written by a philologist. The title of him, taken from the first chapter, aims to encompass the strange case of a writer as gifted for prose as for verse, who nevertheless kept his poetic work in the background and devoted very unequal attention to it. Several chapters analyze this desire to increase the poetic flow rather than to maintain its high level, something visible especially in love and religious themes, that is, those that have extensive precedents; in others, such as jácaras, the author leaves his imagination freer and reaches very high levels. The circulation of Quevedesque poetry, often anonymous, late and uncontrolled, gave rise to spontaneous collaborations, which are sometimes simple imitations not exempt from ingenuity, and expect more secure methods to establish or disprove its authenticity. The book, where there is no lack of value judgments that are always sought to be justified, offers a point of view that is somewhat different from the one used by the Quevedistas by trade, and that may be where its interest lies.
