Bibliophiles and their annotated books. Collecting, reading, writing and publishing books from personal libraries is the result of a meticulous fieldwork on the library shelves of Antonio Castro Leal (1896-1981); Jose Luis Martinez (1918-2007); Ali Chumacero (1918-2010); Jaime Garcia Terres (1924-1966); Carlos Monsiváis (1938-2015) and Luis Garrido Díaz (1898-1973). The research gathered here offers numerous clues and methodological guidelines that will allow readers to delve into the various ways in which those outstanding Mexican bibliophiles collected, read and consulted their books, how they marked and organized them, in a word, how they appropriated and resignified the content of their libraries and how, based on their readings, they criticized, applied professionally in their publishing activities and disseminated their studies in different fields of social and humanistic knowledge. The collections of these bibliophiles were studied from various perspectives and themes: the cultural history of writing and reading, bibliography and bibliology, military literature, and visual and film studies; likewise, The reading promotion policies developed by the institution in which these collections are kept were analyzed. The five essays gathered in this work offer a first cartography of the reading universe of six notable Mexican bibliophiles.
