The private pension system, one of the great neoliberal reforms of the 1990s, is in crisis. The causes are various and this book explores them in as much detail as possible, analyzing the trajectory of the AFPs from its founding in 1992 to the period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. It does so by studying the growing economic and political power of the AFPs and their changing relationships with the state, political parties and pensioners. The issue of what to do with the AFPs continues to the extent that they have lost confidence and demands grow to transform the entire pension system, where the State is the governing body and limits the role of the AFPs. A comprehensive reform is urgently needed to reintroduce the solidarity principle abandoned in 1992 and ensure the objective of a dignified old age through private and state channels. This book contributes to the understanding of the AFP crisis from a point of view that goes beyond the technical-legal, incorporating a realistic analysis of the power and influence of the AFPs, the group of most powerful interest in the country, to resist the changes. Its reading serves to understand the trajectory and future possibilities of the private pension system of the AFPs.
