Thinking and discussing "the populist question" today resembles the eternal work of Sisyphus: carrying the rock of reflection of populism over and over again, facing the unattainable slope of commonplaces. Like that of Sisyphus, ours is a labor—obviously—endless. For this reason, this book does not intend to settle or close the debate, but to lighten the rock of reflection a little; More than deciphering the nature of populism, we intend to think of it as an operative and productive analytical category for the study of particular historical-political processes such as Argentine Peronism and Colombian Gaitanism. And for these purposes, this collective book collects and offers different inquiries about a perspective on populism that we call "decentered". The first offset we propose, highlights the specific political experiences when talking about populism (in the plural) and distances itself from the archetypal models in an anomalous key produced with regard to two of them. The second places in the foreground the question about the role played by the processes of identity constitution and redefinition in Latin American populism. The third is related to a particular way of introducing the historical approach in the study of populisms, since it is not intended to search in the past for an original or essential moment of constitution of a popular identity, but to make visible, in the course of time, different moments of constitution of Peronism and Gaitanism; moments that certainly.
