More than five decades after the appearance of pioneering studies on the military jurisdiction in New Spain, the debate on the functions and impact that this privilege of military corporations had on life in the 19th century continues. In order to contribute to the discussion on this topic, and in order to enrich the perspectives of study on the way in which the societies of the northwest of New Spain appropriated elements of the most diverse Spanish legal traditions, this work tries to explain how they used the military jurisdiction for the militiamen and members of the regular army and other subjects external to the military corporations of Nueva Galicia in the 18th century.
