"El mestizo evanescente" is a study on what it meant to be a mestizo during the beginning of the colonial era, using vivid vignettes from sixteenth and seventeenth-century archives from the New Kingdom of Granada. These texts show how individuals classified as "mixed" were not members of coherent sociological groups, but were anchored in a different epistemology than those classified by modern racial discourses. This work was translated from its original English title, "The disappearing Mestizo: Configuring difference in the colonial New Kingdom of Granada", into Spanish by Santiago Paredes Cisneros.
