"Litoral" is a collection of short stories, centering around an alienated and intoxicated young man who crosses paths with the girl of his dreams and discovers a sad dissonance; a novice surfer who decides to launch an initiation test in the waves of La Herradura; a girl with severe arachnophobia who comes face to face with her worst nightmares; a journalist afflicted by a distant love who finds salvation in a prison inmate; anxious and inexperienced adolescents who desperately search each other for the first pleasures of love; and much more.
The sea, that vivifying and sometimes mortal abyss, serves as a backdrop for the nine stories that make up Litoral. In this, his first book, René Gastelumendi gives us stories of great expressive and symbolic load, where he portrays with originality the daily conflicts between various beings in permanent tension.
Using different resources and journalistic as well as literary tools, Gastelumendi explores the small tragedies and brief moments of fulfillment that invariably we all experience in our private lives, the product of these encounters with otherness.
