"Formas de estar lejos" revolves around Alicia and Matty, who meet in a small town in southern US, fall in love, start a life together, and build what some would call success: a house, career, good job, and nice car. Alicia left behind her family, friends, and life in Euskadi, and has embarked on an intense university career; he has reached that form of stable happiness that routines create. But little by little the lies and perversions that hide behind their perfect life are revealed, as well as the multiple ways in which love is confused with its impostures. Alicia tries to adapt, find her place in this world, and lead a happy life with Matty, but the price she pays is too high. Between reality and desire, a new form of violence is growing and colonizing her life, gradually wearing it down. The day comes, however, when Alicia does not recognize herself in that reality and dares to change it, assuming the consequences that come with it.
