"Sobrevivir en violencia" is a study on marginalization and systemic social exclusion stemming from global capitalism in Chiapas, Mexico, and the world. The work particularly examines how marginalization and exclusion are associated with another serious urban problem -- infomal garbage collection, which has also become an entrepreneurially managed commodity. According to author Montserrat Balcorta Sobrino, these trash collectors, who are primarily women, are among the most invisible, exploited, and disposable actors of the patriarchal capitalist system.
