In the middle of the sixteenth century, cacique Don Diego de Mendoza ruled in Tlatelolco. His grand-granddaughter was beset by the economic problems at the end of the seventeenth century, and was forced to sell some family documents. "Verdades y mentiras en torno a don Diego de Mendoza Austria Moctezuma" provides a meticulous philological analysis of these documents, separating them from late reworkings inspired by the sixteenth-century manuscripts. The works reveal Don Diego de Mendoza as a character of remarkable lineage and an illustrious past.
