This novel tells the story of a poor man, a doctor who serves as an informer to the police of a communist country. Tied with hands and feet, he tries to save himself, but what he does is entangle himself more and more. She invents a plot, falls in love with someone with whom she owes a debt - not helping her when she was a child - and fulfills a promise that will end up being the trap that ultimately leads to her undoing. The story is told by the protagonist himself from a fortress that we believe at the beginning is a prison and in the end, once the regime of the country has changed, we perceive as a sanatorium.
