"Ahora me rindo y eso es todo" is a novel that starts with a vindication of writing and the construction of a landscape, located on the border between Mexico and the United States. Characters from the past and the present appear there, particularly missionaries, settlers, and natives from a wide range of tribes. A woman named Camila appears as well, fleeing through the desert, and a man named Lieutenant Colonel José María Zuloaga, who pursues natives who have stolen cattle in the desert. This place is also inhabited by the myth of Geronimo, a rebel Apache, and a writer who travels in search of the traces of history. These and other characters come together in this mestizo narrative, reflecting on how the past permeates the present, and how it is reconstructed and novelized.
